“Dedicated to improving fitness and quality of life for breast cancer survivors since 2003”

The Pinks are a diverse group of women, all Breast Cancer Survivors, of varying ages and experiences.
We come together on the water to improve our physical and emotional well-being. Dragon boat racing gives us a place to have fun, to support each other, and to encourage new members.
OUR MISSION
• Provide inspiration to women who are in treatment for, or have survived, breast cancer.
• Provide hope that there is quality of life after breast cancer.
• Promote health and fitness, camaraderie, and competition through the sport and culture of dragon boat racing.
OUR PURPOSE
• Promote the fitness and wellness of breast cancer survivors (BCS) by providing weekly practice sessions, equipment, coaching and staff, as well as education on the sport, its history, its connection to breast cancer survivors and the benefits of post-treatment exercise.
• Support the development of amateur athletics for national and international dragon boat competition by participation in a variety of amateur dragon boat racing festivals and regattas.
• Provide a supportive environment for the exchange of breast cancer-related health and welfare.
• Promote the growth and development of breast cancer racing opportunities, increasing accessibility for those who are living with or have survived cancer.
• Increase visibility of breast cancer survivors by attending Dragon Boat races/festivals and participating in flower ceremonies and other BCS activities.

IS IT FOR ME?

• I want to meet and socialize with other active women like me
• I don’t want to let cancer stop me from enjoying life.
• I want to get some exercise on the water, soak up the sun
• I want to bond with other women who are going through the same scares, treatments, and life issues
You’d like to give it a try? We can welcome you at one of our practice and take you on the boat. Yes, you can paddle with us! Oh, and did we mention that it’s totally free? You’re just one click away for a life-changing experience…
OUR PRACTICE

WHEN?
We practice every Wednesday morning and every Saturday morning, all year long.
WHERE?
We start from Mother’s Beach, in Long Beach.
WHO?
There are between 12 and 30 members attending every practice, depending on everyone’s availability. We use one or two boats to keep things easy and fun.
HOW?
After warming up by stretching on the beach, we carry the boat into the water. We then paddle for one hour with various exercises.
WHY WE LOVE IT
I had never participated in any team sport but it took only one try to fall in love with this team! After my breast cancer treatment, dragon boating helps me every day feeling strong, free and fearless. Go Pinks!
I’m not a morning person, a water or beach person, and I don’t like exercise! But… being out on the boat in the morning with my pink sisters brings me such joy! I love the feel of getting my exercise done early, having my “pink fix” and kicking off my day on a dragon boat!
This is a racing team with the bonus of being a sisterhood. We practice, we race, and we do what sisters do! We support, we comfort, and we encourage each other to thrive, each in our own unique way.
I paddle because I found a group of breast cancer survivor women who have given me purpose, hope, and friendship in my journey. I love my dragon boat sisterhood!
